Immortal title image

Let's see.. what do we do to decide who is or is not to be an Immortal..

We have different ways of doing it.. sometimes we tell people we are looking and ask for notes explaining why they want to be an Imm.. and we read them.. save them.. vote between us..

Sometimes, actually most of the time, we just notice someone is good in this or that, and an imm will 'groom' them.. a player seems highly interested in building, so a building imm might ask them if they want to learn.. and show them where to go on the web.. and then give them mini assignments, other times a Mortal will just note us stuff, and email rooms/areas ect... (yes pple, we need to notice you, if we do not, how do we know what you are capable of.. we do not mind chatting, and debating, sometimes debates can be quite fun!)

THIS pretty much describes what being an immortal is all about..

There seems a bit of confusion about what Immortals are... so perhaps this will clear it up a bit.

Immortals are here for a very simple reason: To make the gameplay more fun for the mortals. We do this by making the code work, adding new things to it, being there for them when they have a problem with something or need
a question answered... and a million other little ways as well. We make and enforce the rules to make sure that one person's fun doesn't prevent others from having fun.

A common misconception seems to be that being an Imm is a reward of some sort...

Wrong.

Immhood is a responsibilty you accept because you care about the MUD. You've spent time and want to give back so you accept the responsibilities of an Immortal. You take the position you're given and do the job that needs done. What position you're in isn't a representation of how much you're appreciated, it isn't a representation of how well you've done... ALL it is is the position you're most needed in.

The Imp is just the person who's running the MUD. The Imp chooses the mortals he feels are best suited for the jobs and advances them to the level that suits the job they have.

Perhaps a better way of thinking of it would be to drop this whole concept of 'mortals' and 'immortals' and just think of it as being a player that's helping the MUD by serving on the staff to ensure that the other players can continue to have fun. Think of it as something like a charity action.

Anywho, this note is getting long, so I'll try to finish it up.

You're Imms, but you're here for the morts.  Don't feel like you're better than them. Don't feel like your attention is too precious to answer newbie questions on public channels. I know this may seem really strange coming from me because of the attitude I seem to have towards the morts, but I can assure you that I try to be helpful most of the time and while I can be a hardass at times, I really do believe in this and will try to act by it in all things I do.

I hope you do so as well.
